Research Project:Phases of Sovereignity. State Portraits and the European Power Struggle c. 1500 - 1800
The development of the state portrait is studied as an aspect of the state building process and as an outcome or the power struggle between European princes. State portraits were visual expressions of the identity of a certain prince in relation to the visual expressions of other monarchs, in particular in relation to the most powerful ones.
