I am a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University, and an Associate Professor with tenure in the Political Science Department at William Jewell College. My research and teaching focuses on international peace and security, civil wars and political violence, and peacebuilding in divided societies from a comparative perspective. I am currently a Principal Investigator for the Inclusive Governance and Fragility Research Project (IGFRP), a study of inclusive governance and conflict prevention dynamics in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Conflict Bureau, and a Visiting Scholar at the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance. My research on political violence, peacebuilding, and democratization has been published with Oxford University Press, Palgrave, Routledge, Peace and Change: A Journal of Peace Research, and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), among others. I recently co-authored a book titled, Peacebuilding in Deeply Divided Societies: Toward Social Cohesion, a comparative analysis of peace processes and international interventions in seven conflict-affected countries funded by a major grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for Religion and International Affairs. In addition to my teaching and research experience, I studied international affairs and religion at the University of Denver (PhD) and Harvard University (MTS), and have managed relief, development, and peacebuilding programs in multiple disaster and conflict-affected contexts including in Haiti, Nepal, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, and South Sudan.
