Short presentation

My research focuses on urban inequality in the context of Nordic welfare state transformations. I study the increasing entrepreneurialism in municipal land policy, and the retrenchment of state housing policy, specifically in Finland. I am fascinated by questions regarding urban political economy, such as property rights, land rent theory and the possibilities of alternative property arrangements such as the urban commons.

Research

I am currently working on the following three research publications.

Urban Inequality in Finland - Land, Housing, and the Nordic Welfare State is a monograph based on seven years of research in Finland. It is currently under review with Edinburgh University Press.

The Political Economy of Land. I am the first editor of this collection of texts that explore the justifications and consequences of treating land as a financial asset, land rent and financialization, and the embeddedness of land in social relations. The book is estimated to be out in the fall of 2022 with Routledge.

Housing Co-operatives and the Contradictions of Finnish Land and Housing Policies. I am the second author of this working paper on co-operative housing pilot projects in Helsinki.
