Short presentation

I am a visiting researcher at Uppsala affiliated with the department of philosophy's aesthetics division. My research is mainly at the intersection of aesthetics and ethics.

Before joining Uppsala, I was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow at the University of Southampton, where I ran the Art & Ethics research project. Before this I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas at UNAM. I completed a PhD in philosophy at the University of Michigan in 2016 and an MA at the University of Sheffiled in 2009.

My research is mainly in aesthetics and ethics. Much of it tackles questions concerning values and what philosophers call ‘normativity’ in art, art appreciation, and other aesthetic activities. My work is increasingly occupied with how oppressive social relations condition aesthetic activities. I am currently working on a book about whether ethical properties affect the aesthetic value of artworks. My work has appeared in Philosophers’ Imprint, the AJP and Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, among other venues.

To encourage work at the intersection of aesthetics and ethics, I recently co-founded a research group, AERG whose membership is growing. I encourage everyone with related interests to join.
