Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer-related deaths in women in Europe with a 5-year survival of around 40%. The age-standardized incidence rate is around 12-14/100.000 in the Nordic countries, with 751 cases diagnosed in Sweden in 2013.

Ovarian cancer usually presents at an advanced stage, with intraabdominal spread and peritoneal carcinomatosis at diagnosis. The mainstay of treatment is primary surgery, aiming at complete cytoreduction, followed by chemotherapy. Because of the widespread disease, surgery is often extensive. It is of great value to identify patients with non-resectable tumors who preferably should achieve neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

The purpose of my studies is to evaluate integrated PET-MRI for preoperative prediction of carcinomatosis of gynecologic origin.
