Short presentation

Studies focus on cold region slope processes and biogeomorphology, including periglacial records from southern Africa, slope process-vegetation/animal-climate interactions in sub-Antarctic diurnal frost environments and sub-Arctic Sweden. Embodied learning in tertiary education: I explore phenomenological theories and practices on embodied knowledge creation, its qualities and impact on empirical science, based on Feldenkrais, Gendlin's work (Focusing/TAE) and Zen.

Originally from the Netherlands where I studied Physical Geography at Utrecht University, I moved to South Africa where I lived and worked until 2001. Since my appointment at Uppsala University I have continued to follow my research interest in landscape dynamics of alpine and polar regions and teach in most aspects of physical geography.
Since 2005 I have started to explore embodiment theory and practice for university-based education and research.
