Biological processes depend on the dynamic interplay between enzymes and other molecules. We are studying glutathione transferases (GSTs), detoxication enzymes that serve diverse catalytic functions involving endogenous as well as exogenous molecules. The enzymes protect against cancer and various human degenerative diseases and contribute to longevity. We are engineered GSTs for biotechnical applications to cancer therapy as well as to plant herbicide resistance and soil phytoremediation.
