Born and raised in Blackpool, England (about an hour north west of Manchester), I studied english language, literature and creative writing before training to become a qualified secondary and post 16 teacher in the UK. I worked as a teacher of English, Media Studies and Film Studies for 4 years in the UK before moving to Sweden where I continued to teach English at a bilingual school for 6 years.

I completed my masters studies in Sociology of Education at Uppsala University, defending my thesis 'Where do teachers teach? Choice strategies developed by Newly Qualifed Teachers (NQTs) in Greater Manchester' in June 2019.

I worked as a research assistant for the Department of Education (EDU) at Uppsala University before being offered a position as a doctoral student in 2020.
